In 1992, Evelyn H. Lauder and Alexandra Penney, then editor of SELF, developed the Pink Ribbon, which became the globally recognized symbol of breast health. Over 110 million Pink Ribbons have been distributed.

The Human Pink Ribbon
The Estée Lauder Companies’ Ribbon of Light Campaign is launched. Hundreds of “human ribbons” are created in parks, college campuses and plazas around the world, including France (pictured).

Turning up the Heat
In a bold move, The Estée Lauder Companies’ famed Pink Ribbon “turns up the heat” on breast cancer by changing its color from pale to hot pink.
