Consumer and environmental safety have always been top priorities at The Estée Lauder Companies. We, therefore, embrace the objective and implementation of REACH (the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals). REACH is a new European Union chemicals regulation that took effect on June 1, 2007. This regulation affects all industries, including the cosmetic industry.
The objective of REACH is to ensure that all chemicals used in the European Union, on their own, in formulations, or in “articles” (for example, a product’s packaging, clothing, cars, and so on) are safe for human health and the environment, under the normal conditions of use. It is important to note that all substances used in cosmetics are already regulated for human health by the European Union Cosmetics Directive.
As REACH provisions will roll-out in stages through June 2018, it requires on-going cooperation among manufacturers, importers, suppliers, and retailers in providing one another with required documentation and data. We are participating in this cooperative effort.
We are committed to selling only safe products and work diligently to ensure that our formulations, packaging, and ancillary products meet, if not exceed, the standards put forth by global governmental, regulatory, and scientific bodies, as well as our own exceedingly high quality assurance standards. The Estée Lauder Companies is abiding by REACH regulations and will continue to do so.
