Respect for Animal Welfare
For over 20 years, it has been the uncompromised aim of The Estée Lauder Companies to have world-wide replacement of all animal testing on ingredients used in cosmetics with non-animal alternatives. The Company has strived to gain acceptance of non-animal test alternatives and has made non-animal testing a primary goal.
In pursuit of this goal, The Estée Lauder Companies:
- was one of the first cosmetic companies, globally, to completely abandon animal testing on finished products in the late 1980’s
- was one of the first companies to champion the validation of new alternatives to animal testing methods
- is one of the founding supporters of the work of SCAAT (Scientific Committee on Alternatives to Animal Testing), an arm of the European trade association, COLIPA. Support for this essential work continues today.
- is a member of EPAA (European Partnership for Alternatives to Animal Testing), a cross-industry group that includes the European Commission.
- is a founder of and continues to work with the Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing at Johns Hopkins University in the United States.
- is continuously investigating opportunities to advance and gain acceptance for non-animal testing alternatives, with focus on funding research to achieve the goal of the elimination of animal testing.
