Evelyn H. Lauder, Senior Corporate Vice President of The Esteé Lauder Companies Inc., has held many positions at the Company while contributing her invaluable insights about fashion trends, consumers' changing needs and new approaches to the development of innovative skin care, makeup and fragrance products. She also helped create and name the Clinique brand. As Head of Fragrance Development Worldwide for The Esteé Lauder Companies, she brings unique fragrance combinations and impressions to life in distinctive and globally successful scents.
Mrs. Lauder is Chairman of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) which she founded in 1993. She is passionately committed to funding breast cancer research, leading to prevention and a cure in our lifetime. To date, BCRF has raised over $190 million to support clinical and genetic research. In October 2007, BCRF awarded over $32 million to more than 150 researchers in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East.
In 1989, Mrs. Lauder started the fundraising drive that established the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. As the first breast and diagnostic center, it has become a model for similar facilities around the world. In October 1992, she and Alexandra Penney, then editor of Self magazine, developed the pink ribbon, which has become the worldwide symbol of breast health. To date, The Esteé Lauder Companies has distributed more than 70 million ribbons and informational brochures worldwide. In 2000, Mrs. Lauder and The Esteé Lauder Companies launched the Global Landmarks Illumination Initiative, in which over 180 historic landmarks are illuminated in pink lights during the month of October, focusing global attention on this issue.
Mrs. Lauder's achievements have garnered global recognition. In 2002, she received France's Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. In June 2007, Mrs. Lauder recieved the prestigious 2007 Partners in Progress Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology for her efforts to increase public awareness about cancer. In 1999 and 2007, she was featured in Crain's New York Business magazine as one of New York's 100 Most Influential Women in Business.
Mrs. Lauder is a dedicated photographer whose art is represented in many public and private collections, including The Brooklyn Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Pace/MacGill Gallery in New York City and leading medical facilities. Her second book of photographs, An Eye for Beauty, was published in 2002. Her most recent photo exhibition, Perceptions of Beauty, opened at the Berggruen Gallery in San Francisco in March 2007 and traveled to Los Angeles and Chicago. In September 2006, Rodale Books published Mrs. Lauder's first cookbook, In Great Taste: Fresh, Simple Recipes for Eating and Living Well. All of Mrs. Lauder's royalties from her books and exhibitions are donated to BCRF.
Mrs. Lauder is married to Leonard A Lauder, Chairman of The Esteé Lauder Companies Inc. They have two sons. William is President and Chief Executive Officer of The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. and Gary is Managing Director, Lauder Partners LLC.
