Sam
Accounts Payable Manager, UK&I
What first brought you to ELC and what was your first role with the company?
I joined ELC in 1985 straight from college, on the old YTS (Youth Training Scheme), which was a government funded programme. Later, I was taken on by ELC as an Office Junior within the Purchase Ledger Dept.
Over the years, what has been your proudest moment at ELC?
Early in my career I was awarded the star employee of the year, which was a huge achievement at the time. Along the way, I have been involved in some significant projects with the company. Also seeing team members who have worked for me develop, grow, and progress into new roles provides great satisfaction.
What do you think has kept you here for so many years?
I like the culture of the company. It is a special place to work, family-focused, and I am lucky enough to work with some great people. The company really affords you great opportunities to develop both personally and professionally with career progression prospects.
What’s something that has stayed the same—an ELC value, tradition, or spirit that has endured through the years?
The company has always had people at the forefront of its thinking. Whether that be the employees of ELC or our consumers, this has always been the most important factor, and that remains today.
What do you enjoy most about working with your colleagues here?
I have a great network of colleagues around me that I have worked with over several years. I enjoy the friendships that have been established. There is a great team spirit within the wider finance team. A challenge that’s shared can often be resolved within the team. There are mutual trust, honesty, and respect, with the team working towards a common goal.
When you look back at your career, what are you most grateful for?
Looking back, I think the opportunities the company has given me over the many years have certainly allowed me to develop and grow and broaden my horizons—whether that be managing a team remotely, travelling to different affiliate locations around the world, learning and development opportunities both professionally and personally. The biggest thing is probably all the friendships that I have made along the way.
Last one: What's your favourite ELC product?
That’s a hard one – I think I will have to cheat and ask for four:
Fragrance – Jo Malone London – Scarlet Poppy
Haircare – Bumble and bumble – Heat Shield Thermal Protection Hair Mist
Skin care – Estée Lauder - Advanced Night Repair Overnight Treatment
Makeup – Estée Lauder – Double Wear Foundation
