The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) rallied the global tech community with its second annual ‘Tech Day of Pink’ to raise awareness of breast cancer as well as funds to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation® (BCRF)

ELC IT employees around the world celebrate Tech Day of Pink

Michael W. Smith, Chief Information Officer at ELC, conceived Tech Day of Pink in 2017 and was inspired to find a unique way to support ELC’s Breast Cancer Campaign (BCC), the Company’s largest social impact programme with a mission to create a breast cancer-free world. The inaugural Tech Day of Pink in 2018 was widely embraced by the IT team at the Company. This year, Michael and ELC challenged the broader tech community to take Tech Day of Pink to new heights, coming together to support the cause.

The IT community united to join the fight against breast cancer through awareness, fundraising and education efforts, making a significant combined impact. Tech employees globally spread the word about #TechInPink2019 and how it’s #TimeToEndBreastCancer with the campaign hashtags, which were shared thousands of times across social media.

In the UK, employee volunteers participated in various activities at ELC UK & Ireland’s high-tech distribution facility, Kite’s Croft, including a ‘Bake Off’ competition – judged by Neil Verma, VP Technology UK & Ireland, and Andy Parry, VP Global Employee IT Experience – a bake sale and a BCC quiz, all designed to spread awareness about breast cancer and raise funds for BCRF. Globally, the IT community raised over £10,000, which is twice as much as last year.

In addition to spreading awareness, many of ELC’s tech partners took on ELC’s call-to-action including Cognizant and HCL in the UK.

“As I think about the future of Tech Day of Pink, imagine how much closer we can get to ending breast cancer if our tech community rallied together to do what we do best?” said Smith. “I’m confident that together, we can channel innovative technology solutions towards making an even greater impact in this fight. We’re only scratching the surface here, there is still more that can be done.”

The Estée Lauder Companies has been a leader in the global breast cancer movement since Evelyn H. Lauder co-created the Pink Ribbon and started The Breast Cancer Campaign in 1992. A year later, in 1993, she founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation® (BCRF), dedicated to advancing the world’s most promising research to eradicate breast cancer. The Campaign has raised more than $89 million to support global research, education and medical services through the collective support of consumers, employees and partners worldwide, with more than $73 million funding 293 medical research grants through BCRF.
