The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) UK & Ireland today announces details of its £500,000 commitment to seed-fund pioneering UK nature restoration projects over a period of five years, as part of ELC’s community and social investment in the wider regions in which the company operates.
ELC UK & Ireland is a key funder of ‘Revere’, a nature restoration project development facility delivered by a partnership between Palladium and National, which is designed to enable the restoration of natural habitats at scale in the UK’s National Parks using private capital.
The UK’s National Parks are 15 diverse landscapes covering 10% of UK land and containing almost a quarter of the UK’s peatland. Each National Park harbours unique biodiversity and restoration needs. ELC’s partnership with Revere will help test new ways of restoring nature where it is needed most - from supporting ambitious national targets for peatland restoration and woodland creation, to nature recovery to protect iconic local species.
ELC is providing funding for the development of scalable projects across the UK National Parks, which will create new income streams for farmers and landowners seeking to improve the quality of landscapes and support biodiversity, through the sale of ecosystem services. Most importantly, ELC's support will promote knowledge sharing and learning – enabling other land managers and owners to learn from projects supported under Revere.
Sue Fox, President of Estée Lauder Companies UK & Ireland said: “Our five-year commitment to support Revere’s nature-based climate initiatives in the UK’s National Parks underlines our desire for decisive action on climate change. This partnership is focused on helping to protect and restore the UK’s most precious ecosystems through pioneering nature restoration projects designed to combat climate change and the biodiversity crisis. We are delighted to work with National Parks UK, Palladium and the other founding partners.”
Gordon Watson, Chair of National Parks Partnerships and CEO of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park said: "With the spotlight firmly on COP26, it is more important than ever that we highlight the crucial role that the UK’s National Parks can play in fighting the impacts of climate change. The Estée Lauder Companies UK & Ireland’s commitment to our work through Revere will help us to achieve our nature restoration ambitions at the scale and pace we urgently need.”
Andrew Sutherland, Palladium’s Director, Nature-Based Solutions, added: “Through this five-year commitment, The Estée Lauder Companies UK & Ireland is making a real contribution to piloting and scaling innovative approaches to nature restoration through Revere. This leadership will result in new, pioneering approaches to restoring nature across the UK National Parks taking us closer to the scale and pace of action that the climate emergency and biodiversity crisis demands.”
