The Estée Lauder Companies Receives Outstanding Poster Award for Scalp Longevity Research at the 2026 World Congress for Hair Research

Award-winning research with the University of Bradford in the UK advances scientific understanding of scalp longevity and hair follicle aging

Press Release

NEW YORK – June 17, 2026  The Estée Lauder Companies is pleased to announce that its collaborative research poster with the University of Bradford’s Centre for Skin Sciences received the Outstanding Poster Award at the World Congress for Hair Research, held in Seoul from May 28 to May 31, 2026. The award-winning poster, titled “Spatial Transcriptomics of Young and Aged Female Scalp Presents Novel Insights into Cell-Specific Changes Impacting Hair Follicle Aging,” reflects The Estée Lauder Companies’ continued commitment to advancing longevity science through cutting-edge research in skin, scalp, and hair biology.

Conducted in collaboration with the Centre for Skin Sciences at the University of Bradford in the UK, alongside The Estée Lauder Companies Hair Care Research & Innovation team, the study used two advanced research methods to analyze ethically sourced scalp biopsies from healthy young and aged female donors. Spatial transcriptomics helped map where thousands of messenger RNA signals appeared within the scalp tissue, while single-cell RNA sequencing helped identify specific cell types associated with these transcripts and additional signals.

By mapping age-related molecular changes to specific locations within the hair follicle, the research provides new insights into the biological processes that may influence scalp and hair follicle longevity. These findings deepen scientific understanding of how aging affects cellular organization, signaling, stress adaptation, and pigment-related pathways within the scalp environment.

“These findings deepen our understanding of the cellular and molecular changes that occur in the aging scalp,” said Christine Hall, Vice President, Hair Care Formulation, Research and Innovation, The Estée Lauder Companies. “By combining advanced spatial biology with longstanding expertise in hair and skin science, this research supports our commitment to translating cutting-edge discovery into meaningful innovation.”

The recognition underscores The Estée Lauder Companies’ continued leadership in advanced skin and hair longevity research and highlights the value of academic collaboration in uncovering new scientific insights. Through the use of advanced technologies such as spatial transcriptomics, mRNA sequencing, and advanced molecular profiling, ELC continues to expand the scientific understanding of scalp biology, hair follicle aging, and future opportunities for hair care innovation.
