ELC Hosts Scientific Advisory Board Meeting in Seoul to Advance Skin Care Innovation

Press Release

SEOUL, June 26, 2024 – The Estée Lauder Companies' (ELC) recently convened its inaugural Scientific Advisory Board Meeting on the headlined topic in Seoul, South Korea to garner insights on relevant dermatological science and practices, and strengthen collaborations with Asia-based dermatologists. The meeting convened 6 renowned dermatologists as well as leaders from across ELC’s Asia R&D and Innovation teams to discuss how to bridge the latest regional trends in dermatological procedures with skin care products for optimal beauty results.

The Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) meeting featured 4 influential dermatologists from Korea and 2 from China, all renowned for their expertise in dermatological procedures. Four of them are women, demonstrating ELC’s strong commitment to women in STEM. During the meeting, the advisory board members, together with ELC scientists:

  • Shared insights into the latest trends in dermatological procedures in both Korea and China, and discussed the impact of these procedures on the skin, especially on Asian skin
  • Highlighted the positive role skin care products can play in the period before and/or after dermatological procedures
  • Presented clinical study results on ELC products for post-procedure use and outlined plans for future studies
  • Delved into the principles, approaches, and practices of using skin care products for dermatological procedures, and shared suggestions for ELC's future study plans in the panel discussion session

“At ELC, our commitment to innovation is perpetually fueled by a multidisciplinary scientific approach, drawing upon insights and knowledge from the broad scientific and clinical community,” said Jane Anders, Senior Vice President of Asia Innovation, R&D, Product Development, and Packaging Development. “The regional dermatologists on our scientific advisory board play a pivotal role in ensuring our strategic direction and scientific and clinical research are aligned to deliver innovations that both drive market trends and cater to locally relevant consumer demands.”

The dermatological procedure market in East Asia, has experienced significant growth and evolution, propelled by a convergence of factors including heightened awareness, technological advancements, and evolving beauty standards. For example, Korea boasts a sophisticated and innovative dermatological procedure market that sets trends within the beauty industry, spanning skin rejuvenation, anti-aging, and body contouring.

“Effective skin care products are crucial in helping optimize the outcome of dermatological procedures by soothing the skin as well as enabling faster barrier recovery,” noted Dr. Heisung Kim, Chair of the Department of Dermatology and Itch Clinic at Incheon St. Mary’s Hospital and Professor of Dermatology at The Catholic University of Korea. “I am thrilled at this opportunity today where we share our insights. Through collaborative efforts, we will be able to offer new innovative products tailored to the specific needs of our patients.”

In addition to the wealth of scientific knowledge acquired and the collaborative opportunities identified through the lively exchange and discussions during the meeting, the Scientific Advisory Board also agreed to host its 2nd meeting in China early next year. Looking forward, the company will apply the learning and insights gained from this meeting into its overall innovation, particularly for brands with a strong dermatological heritage, such as Clinique and Dr. Jart+. ELC will continue to collaborate closely with leading dermatologists and experts through various formats of collaboration, enhancing its presence in professional congresses to engage more experts within the dermatological community.
